As reported earlier this week, People magazine picked up the rights to publish these exclusive photos in the United States for $14 million.

Angelina Jolie announces the establishment of Global Action for Children (GAC)’s new headquarters in Washington, DC at a news conference held at the National Press Club on Thursday.

Angelina Jolie said, “The numbers associated with this problem are staggering. It is overwhelming and the scale of the problem seems to give many an excuse for inaction. In many ways it is better to think of these children one by one — each deserving of our care and attention, each being of equal value, and each being a test of whether justice or injustice will prevail.

“I am here to simply ask you to think about orphaned children not as a burden but as a great opportunity. Their education is an investment in our future. They have had to work very, very hard to survive, but when they are given a chance, they grow strong, stronger than most. The Lost Boys of Sudan are a great example.”

The GAC is a nonpartisan advocacy organization focused on on increasing funding by $2.5 billion per year by the U.S. government for programs that support orphans and vulnerable children.

Angelina & Brad Helping Again

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated $100,000 to help build the first modern medical facility in Duk County, Sudan called “The Duk Lost Boys Clinic.”

The donation was mad through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation and will go directly to to Direct Change, a nonprofit that raises financial support for grassroots projects in Africa.

Said John Dau, the Director of Direct Change’s Sudan Project, “Words cannot express my gratitude and gratitude of the people of Duk County Sudan. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt demonstrate the American spirit of generosity. Hopefully, their donation will inspire others to join with us to rebuild southern Sudan.”

Dau’s story was featured in the documentary God Grew Tired of Us, which Brad executive produced. The facility is scheduled to open later this spring and serve upwards of 150,000 people.

Angelina Jolie has completed her adoption of 3-year-old Pax Thien Jolie (previously as Pham Quang Sang) from Vietnam. The mother-of-four has left the capital Hanoi, where she obtained Pax’s visa to take him home to L.A. The family departed from Noi Bai Airport via a Gulfstream jet.

Said Angelina on making Pax’s transition as smooth as possible: "It will take him a while to realize he has a family and that his new life is permanent and that it won’t keep changing."

Star Magazine is reporting that Angelina Jolie’s mom’s (Marcheline Bertrand) last dying wish was for her daughter to marry Brad Pitt. Will Brad and Angie be walking down the aisle together sometime soon?

Here is their report:
“Marcheline asked Brad to take care of Angelina and the kids [their adopted children Maddox, 5, and Zahara, 2, and their biological daughter Shiloh, 8 months,” says the source. And she made a similar, equally impassioned plea to her headstrong daughter.”

“She spent the most time with Angelina — she told Angelina that her dying wish was for her to marry Brad,” says the source. “Even during her darkest days over the past months, Marcheline [had urged] Angelina to marry him. Marcheline adored Brad and believed he was an angel sent into their lives to take care of Angie.” So now, adds the source, despite Angelina publicly vowing in the past that she and Brad would not marry, “there is no way Angelina’s going to let her mom down.”

Marcheline Bertrand Passes Away

Angelina Jolie is in mourning after her mother Marcheline Bertrand lost her battle with cancer on Saturday. The former actress had been diagnosed with the disease almost eight years ago. She died on Saturday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In a statement released by Jolie yesterday, the star revealed she, her partner Brad Pitt and brother James Haven were at the hospital when Bertrand, 56, passed away.

Bertrand, who was partly of native American descent, had supporting roles in movies like Lookin' to Get Out (1982) and The Man Who Loved Women (1983), but gave up her acting career to raise her kids as a single mum, after divorcing their father, actor Jon Voight, in 1978. Angelina said that her inspiration to become an actress was instilled by her mother not her more famous Oscar-wining father, with whom she is thought to have little contact. Bertrand always stayed on the fringes of Hollywood and produced star-studded documentary Trudell in 2005.

Jolie confirmed her mother was battling ovarian cancer last month, but confessed she expected her to win her fight with the disease. In a TV interview with CNN talk show host Larry King, the actress revealed her mother was "doing good", adding, "She has fought for six years and she's a remarkable woman, she's very, very strong and her spirit remains unbroken."

A private funeral is to be held and the family have requested that donations to the hospital's women's cancer research fund be given instead of flowers.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have formed the Jolie/Pitt Foundation to aid humanitarian causes around the world. The newly formed charitable foundation is giving away $1 million to the Global Action for Children and $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, to help families affected by HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty.

The U.S. director for Global Action for Children, Jennifer Delaney, said: “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying.”

The couple’s spokesman, Trevor Neilson, released a statement saying: “Angelina and Brad are committed to using their resources to help the world’s most vulnerable people. These two organizations are focusing on crises that receive far too little attention and Angelina and Brad are happy to do their part to help.”

"She brings tons of baked goods and trinkets for the nurses, unfailingly makes chatty visits to other patients — then cheerfully signs autographs and poses for photos with anyone who asks while waiting for her mom. Said one awed source: "Angelina's one of the biggest stars this town's ever seen — but she never wants anyone to make a fuss over her!"

It's a shame that Angie's mother has cancer and she and Brad Pitt have to struggle with the uncertainty, but it's great to hear they can still be kind as they struggle.

Nicole Kidman has hit out at Angelina Jolie for using her charity work for publicity. The Oscar winning Aussie beauty, Nicole Kidman, is reported to have said that even though Angelina Jolie was doing no more than any nurse in a hospital, she was still getting more attention just because she was famous.

"It's not like Angelina is any better than a nurse working in a hospital but she's getting the publicity for her contribution," she quoted her, as telling Scotland's Daily Record newspaper.

The Australian actress is about to make her first trip to India as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women.

"I have a friend who is a doctor and every year he works in Africa for two months for no money. So everyone is on the same playing field, whether you offer your services as the doctor or as Angelina does."

Like Nicole, Angelina is also a United Nations goodwill ambassador. Jolie is known for her humanitarian charity work too. She has previously visited victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake disaster on behalf of the UN, and donated all the money she and Brad raised from the sale of the first pictures of baby Shiloh to children's charity UNICEF.

Fatherhood has turned Brad Pitt into a leading philanthropist because he wants other children to realise the same advantages as his own. It bothers me to see these people (in New Orleans) getting left behind and not getting a big hand up. These are the people that need the most help."

Giving back helps Brad Pitt accept his blessed life as a dad: "There are a lot of great things in my life and that comes from this family that we've created. It's incredibly grounding and, walking in the door at the end of the day and seeing these faces light up, I don't know anything more rewarding."

Jon Voight has been desperately trying to repair his relationship with estranged daughter Angelina Jolie by publicly requesting to see his grandchildren, but he may have further hampered their relationship by mistakenly calling his granddaughter Shakira instead of Zahara.

The veteran actor was caught on tape at the British Academy Of Film And Television Arts Tea Party on Saturday, where he was doing interviews on the red carpet. Entertainment news website TMZ.com has posted footage of Voight sending birthday wishes to his grandson Maddox saying, "Maddox just had a birthday. Happy birthday, Maddox! Five years old - it's a big one! You're going to be a young man, and I send my love out to you. And send my love to...uh...Shakira...and Shahira..."

The befuddled grandfather then asked the reporter, 'Is it Shakira or Shahira?' apparently confusing the one-and-a-half-year-old tot for the 29-year-old Colombian singer. When the reporter replied that the correct name of Angelina and Brad Pitt's adopted daughter was Zahara, the confused Voight added, "Shahara! Shahara!"

The couple's other daughter Shiloh Nouvel, who is three months old, failed to get a mention. Jolie and her father haven't spoken since he went on US entertainment show "Access Hollywood" four years ago, urging his daughter to get help for her "mental problems."

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are packing up and leaving their beachfront compound in Malibu, California, for Los Angeles' trendy Los Feliz neighborhood. The couple and their three children - Maddox, five, Zahara, 19 months and Shiloh, three months - have only been back in the US for a short time following their extended stay in Namibia, but are already moving on.

Pitt has spent more than a decade buying and renovating in Los Feliz and has amassed a three-property compound. The brood is currently splitting their time between the two homes, but sources report Pitt intends to make Los Feliz the family's primary residence.

The architecture buff has reportedly invested an estimated $4 million in the properties, which include a stone house once occupied by "Elvira" actress Cassandra Peterson, a California Craftsman, and a post-and-beam property built in the 1950s. 'Capote' Screenwriter & Angelina Jolie

Capote screenwriter Dan Futterman has secretly been cast opposite Angelina Jolie in a film about slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Jolie made headlines last month when it was announced she was playing Pearl's widow Marianne in the film adaptation of her 2003 memoir "A Mighty Heart."

But Paramount Pictures made no mention at the time of who would be playing her husband, leading many to speculate the role was yet to be cast. In fact, Futterman, who is best known for his recurring role on TV drama Judging Amy, had already been selected and was secretly filming in Pakistan.

The casting was kept a closely guarded secret because of security concerns and crewmembers were sworn to secrecy during the 10-day shoot on location in Karachi and Islamabad. Director Michael Winterbottom and a skeleton crew went to Pakistan undercover, hoping to be mistaken for a documentary or news crew.

Futterman, who agreed to be interviewed only after he returned to the US, tells the Washington Post, "It was important to shoot in the actual places where things happened. There are lots of little things that were important to (Winterbottom), not least of all the people and the sound of the language spoken."

Pearl was a respected journalist at the time he was abducted and killed in Pakistan - four months before his wife gave birth to their son - while researching a story about Muslim fundamentalists.

Martinez complains too many people misunderstand Angelina Jolie, who was portrayed as a 'marriage-wrecker' in the fall-out of her current boyfriend Brad Pitt's marriage to Jennifer Aniston last year.
